Categories

Introduction

Categories define a group of related videos. You can create your own categories (they can be anything you want) and then assign video content to those categories. Typically, you would assign videos to the same category to indicate that the videos share similarities within the content.

For example, you can create a category called “Surfing”, then assign “Surfing” to any video content that features surfing or anything related. Your viewers can now easily find all the surfing-related videos on your platform.

Categories can be used to display content in a dynamic video slider, and Programming Page widget.

Accessing Categories

You can find a list of all the categories and can create new categories in the Categories screen.

In the left menu under Channel Settings, click Categories in the left menu.

The Categories screen appears.

Creating Categories

1. Click Create Category.

   
   

   

2. Enter a name for the category and click Create.

   

The category is created and you automatically return to the Categories screen.

Assigning Categories

Once you've created some categories and added some videos to your platform, you can assign the categories to your videos.

There are two ways to assign videos to a category:

• A

  If you want to assign one or more categories to a single video, see the Assigning or Unassigning Categories to video article.

• B

  If you have more than one video that you want to assign to a category, follow the steps below.

  1. In the Categories screen, find the category that you want and click Edit.
  
  2. In the Category submenu, click Videos.
  
  3. In the text field, start typing the first three letters of the name of an item (e.g., the name of a live event or video-on-demand) in the Library. Suggested items will appear just below the text field. Click on the desired item(s) and they will populate in the text field.
  Repeat this step if you want to add multiple items at a time.
  4. Click Add.

  The selected video(s) will be assigned to the category.

Unassigning Categories

There are two ways to remove library content from a category:

• A

  If you want to unassign more than one category from a single video, see the Assigning or Unassigning Categories to a video article.

• B

  If you want to unassign more than one video from a category, follow the steps below.

  1. In the Categories screen, find the category that you want and click Edit.
  2. In the Category submenu, click Videos.
  3. Find the library item that you want to unassign and click Remove.
     A confirmation message appears.
  4. Click OK.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 if you want to unassign additional videos.

Sorting Categories

If you've created several categories in a channel, you can organize items in the Categories screen by sorting them using the Order column. This allows you to manually organize the list of categories.

1. Find the categories that you want and click Empty (under the Order column).

   

2. Enter the order number and click the blue box.

   
   

   

The category will be sorted according to the changes you've made.
