Attribute Groups

Introduction

An attribute group contains attributes that define a single video or group of related videos. For example, an attribute group may be “Movies” and each of its attributes may be different genres of movies (e.g., “Documentary”, “Action”, “Comedy”, etc.). 

Attributes are used to organize and display content in a dynamic video slider, for filtering content on a Programming Page widget, and for advertising pre-roll videos to your content.

We recommend spending time thinking about what attribute groups best suit your video library even if you aren't going to use them right away, mainly because attributes get used in more places on the site that affect the user experience.

Accessing Attribute Groups

You can find the list of attribute groups and create new attribute groups in the Attribute Groups screen.

In the left menu under Channel Settings, click Attribute Groups in the left menu.

The Attribute Groups screen appears.

Assigning Attribute Groups

After you’ve created Attribute Groups and Attributes, you can now assign them to individual video content in the library. You must edit an existing video in order to assign Attribute Groups or Attributes to it.

1. In the Library, find the video content that you want and click Edit.
2. Click the Attributes tab.
3. Select the checkboxes as desired, and then click Save.

The selected Attribute Groups and Attributes have been assigned to the video.

Editing Attribute Groups

Learn how you can edit Attribute Groups by renaming, arranging their order, and deleting it.

Renaming an Attribute

If an Attribute has been assigned to video content and you rename the Attribute, the content will automatically be assigned to the new name. For example, if you rename an Attribute Group that has been assigned to a dynamic video slider, the display of videos in that slider will remain the same.

1. In the Attribute Groups tab, find the Attribute Group containing the Attribute that you want to rename. Click its Attributes button.

   

   
   

2. Find the attribute that you want, click its drop-down button and select Edit.

   

   
   
3. Enter a new name in the text field and click Save.

Your changes have been saved and you return to the Attribute Groups tab.

Arranging Attributes

Attribute Groups and attributes will appear in the list in the order which they were created, but you can change the order if you want to. For example, you may want them to organized alphabetically.

1. Find the Attribute Group that you want to edit and click Attributes.
2. Click the Arrange Attributes button.

3. Drag-and-drop items in the list.

   

4. Click Done.

Deleting an Attribute

1. In the Attribute Groups screen, find the attribute group that contains the attribute that you want to delete. Click its Attributes button.
2. Find the Attribute that you want to delete and click Delete.

3. In the confirmation message that appears, click OK.

   

• When you delete an Attribute Group, all of its attributes will also be deleted.
• Deleting an Attribute Group may affect the pages and library content which are associated with that Attribute Group and its Attributes. It's recommended to reassign library content and/or update any page widgets which may be displaying videos from the Attribute Group that you want to delete.

1. In the Attribute Groups screen, find the attribute group that you want to delete and click Delete.

2. In the confirmation message that appears, click OK.
